Many mothers tell me they rarely wear much makeup. That is fine. The goal is to look rested and polished, not to look like someone else.
What hairstyles suit a mother of the bride?
It depends on her hair length and what she will wear. A soft blow-dry with volume at the crown works well for shorter hair. For longer hair, a low chignon or a relaxed half-up style looks elegant with a hat or fascinator, and I can pin these securely. If she will wear a hat, bring it on the morning so I can build the style around it.
Who goes first, mum or the bride?
Usually the mother, because she often has jobs to do later in the morning: greeting the photographer, checking flowers, helping with the dress. Once she is ready, she can relax and enjoy watching her daughter being styled. The bride comes last so her look is at its freshest when she steps out of the door.
