Your makeup artist will be with you during some of the quietest, most emotional hours of your wedding day. Skill matters, but so do calm, clear communication and a style that feels like you. Here is how I would choose, and the 12 questions I would ask before booking anyone, including me.
Start with style, not price
Find an artist whose work matches the look you imagine, then compare practical details. A beautiful look that is not your style will not feel right on the day.
Look through portfolios and decide whether you love the overall feel: natural Nordic glow, timeless elegance or modern glamour. My own approach is skin-first and refined, highlighting natural beauty instead of hiding it. Save images you love, and notice which details repeat, such as soft lips, defined eyes or sleek hair.

Check the portfolio for consistency
A good portfolio shows a range of skin tones and styles that look good in different light. Look for a consistent finish, not just one lucky photograph.
Ask yourself whether the skin looks like skin, whether the makeup works in close-ups and wide shots, and whether hairstyles look secure. Check Instagram as well, such as @nordicmakeupartist, to see work shared in a more casual way. Since I am also a wedding photographer, I judge my own work by how it holds up in photographs. If you want a deeper look at that thinking, read about photogenic bridal makeup.
Confirm the trial and process
A trial session is the best way to know you will love the result. Ask how the process works from consultation to wedding morning.
My process has four steps: a consultation about your dress, theme and vibe; a trial in real light and on camera; the wedding morning, when I come to you and begin a few hours before the ceremony with time for breaks; and optional all-day touch-ups plus veil, pins, flowers and accessory styling. Trial pricing is on request. For what to expect, read the bridal makeup trial guide.
Think about location and travel
Choose someone who will come to you, so the morning stays calm. Ask where she travels and how that is charged.
I come to your home, hotel or venue across Copenhagen, Greater Copenhagen and all of Zealand, and I travel within Europe on request. Travel outside Copenhagen is quoted individually. See the pages for Copenhagen and Zealand to check coverage.
The 12 questions to ask before booking
These twelve questions cover style, process, practicalities and cost. Any professional should answer them clearly and without pressure.
- Is my wedding date and time available? Confirm before discussing anything else.
- Do you do both makeup and hair? One person for both simplifies the morning. I offer Bridal Makeup & Hair together.
- Do you offer a trial, and what does it include? You want to test the look in real light and on camera.
- How would you describe your style? Listen for words that match your own.
- Which products do you use? I trust Dior, Chanel, Tom Ford, Estée Lauder, YSL, Huda Beauty, MAC and Bobbi Brown.
- Can you work with my skin tone and skin type? Ask about dry, oily, mature, sensitive, deeper or fair skin.
- How will the makeup look in photographs and flash? An artist who understands cameras gives you an advantage.
- Do you come to my location, and is travel included? Clarify the cost in writing.
- What is the schedule on the morning? Ask when you start and how long each person takes.
- Can you do my bridesmaids and mother? Ask for the group price and timing.
- Do you offer touch-ups during the day? Ask about the cost and whether she can stay.
- What are the full prices, deposit and cancellation terms? Get everything in writing.

Compare prices fairly
Compare what is included, not just the headline number. A low price may leave out hair, travel or a trial, while a clear price list shows exactly what you pay for.
My price list is public in the packages section. Bridal Makeup & Hair is €300; Bridal Makeup or Hairstyling alone is €180. For guests, Makeup & Hair is €200 and either service alone is €120. A trial, all-day touch-ups, elopement and City Hall packages, early starts and travel are on request. For a detailed breakdown, read bridal makeup prices in Copenhagen.
Signs that an artist may not be the right fit
Be cautious if answers are vague, the price is unclear or you feel rushed to decide. A confident professional is happy to explain her process.
- She cannot say exactly what is included in the price.
- She does not offer any kind of trial or test of the look.
- Her portfolio shows only one skin tone or one style.
- She is slow to reply before booking, which rarely improves afterwards.
- She cannot explain how the morning will be timed.
Trust your feeling during the first contact
How an artist communicates before the wedding is a preview of how she will behave on the day. Look for clear replies, patience and warmth.
Did she answer your questions fully? Did she listen to your ideas? Do you feel relaxed in her company? You will spend the most personal hours of your morning together, so comfort matters as much as technique. I work in English and Danish, so you can choose the language you feel most at ease in.
Book with confidence
Once you have your shortlist, send each artist the same details and compare their answers. Booking early helps secure your date, especially for popular wedding weekends.
